There’s just something about a fresh start to the year. 2016 is going to be BIG!
The Oregon legislature meets in February with a promising new bill in the works to enforce our state’s limits on climate pollution and invest the proceeds to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy, create good-paying jobs and drive innovation. The Healthy Climate Bill will help Oregonians with energy retrofits for homes and businesses, more renewable energy like solar and wind, and transportation improvements. Additionally, the bill should include provisions for low-income and rural Oregonians, who are disproportionately impacted by climate change. Renew Oregon is part of a large coalition urging action on this bill.
This is also the year we can begin shifting Oregon off polluting coal power and DOUBLING the commitment to renewable energy like wind and solar. If we’re successful in making this monumental change to Oregon’s electricity sources, we’ll have some of the cleanest power in the world here and will serve as an example of how clean energy can bring both economic success and a healthier environment.
We’re also keeping an eye on the out-of-state oil companies who have proposed ballot measures to weaken or repeal the Clean Fuels Standard -- the only major climate protection and clean energy law passed in nearly a decade in Oregon. Oregonians have fought hard to protect clean air in our state and we aren’t about to let big oil corporations roll back those protections.
Stay tuned for that and much more from Renew Oregon in the coming year. We’re very happy to have your voice and your energy as part of this movement to protect the way of life we love in Oregon. We couldn’t do it without you!
