20180403-DH-806-Edit2.jpgDeb is an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Laguna. She grew up in a military family; her father was a 30-year combat Marine who was awarded the Silver Star Medal during Vietnam, and her mother is a Navy veteran who went on to work 25 years in Indian education. Deb's family moved throughout the country during her father's military service; as a result, she attended 13 different high schools before graduating. She knows the sacrifices made by military families all too well -- because she's lived them.

Deb is a single mother who volunteered at her daughter's school in order to afford her daughter's early childhood education. Like so many New Mexicans, Deb had to rely on food stamps at times as a single parent. She has been a small-business owner and knows her colleagues' challenges firsthand. Deb has lived paycheck-to-paycheck and struggled to put herself through college and law school -- but she did it through hard work and determination. Like so many New Mexicans, both Deb and her daughter are still working to pay off exorbitant higher-education loans.

Deb is running for Congress because she's lived the struggles of everyday New Mexicans. She understands their needs and is best equipped to be our families' fiercest advocate in Congress. She will fight tirelessly to create opportunities and improve livelihood for all New Mexicans.

The fossil fuel industry is making billions by putting our communities in harm’s way and forcing us to pay to clean up their mess. Meanwhile, extreme weather fueled by climate change is creating massive droughts across the Southwest, historic flooding across the Southeast, and is forcing people out of their homes from Louisiana to Alaska.

We need to act fast to counteract climate change and keep fossil fuels in the ground. I pledge to vote against all new fossil fuel infrastructure and to fight instead for 100% clean energy -- including tens of thousands of solar energy jobs for New Mexicans. We deserve representatives in Congress who will stand up to the fossil fuel industry, and I will.

Indigenous rights and the fight for climate justice cannot be separated, and I will fight for tribal nations across the country who are battling the fossil fuel industry in their backyards. Β Β

I believe in people over profits. I will fight for all families for access to clean water, air, and housing that allows us an equal opportunity to raise our families with dignity. We need strong environmental protections to ensure this across industries.
